Winter school and a workshop on Uncertainty Quantification at ICS, Lugano, December 2016
The Institute of Computational Science is pleased to announce a winter school and a workshop on Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) that will take place at
the Institute of Computational Science, USI, in Lugano, Switzerland, from December 15th to 19th 2016.
The event will consist of 3 full days of lectures and 2 days of workshop. The topics covered in the winter school will be multilevel quadrature, PDEs with random coefficients and on random domains, second moment analysis, design under uncertainty, approximate models for UQ, Bayesian inverse problems, probabilistic numerics, and Riemann-manifold MCMC.
The winter school will be accompanied by a 2-days workshop on UQ. During this workshop, research talks will be presented. Participation in the workshop is possible independently from participating in the winter school, but can also be combined with attending the school. We invite the submission of abstracts for the workshop.
Please visit our website to register for winter school and/or workshop and for more information: https://ics.usi.ch/index.php/news/fomics-winter-school-at-usi-december-15-19-2016
The winter school is supported and organized by the Swiss Graduate School FOMICS – “Foundations in Mathematics and Informatics for Computer Simulations in Science and Engineering”, which is located at ICS. No prior knowledge in UQ is required, so it is a great opportunity for students and researchers to approach to UQ for the first time, particularly for those working in computational science. The lectures in the winter school will be given by
Mark Girolami (University of Warwick)
Helmut Harbrecht (Uni Basel)
Phaedon-Stelios Koutsourelakis (TU Munich)
Organizing Committee: Alessio Quaglino (USI-ICS), Rolf Krause (USI-ICS), Olaf Schenk (USI-ICS), Antonietta Mira (USI-IDIDS), Alessandro Lomi (USI-IDIDS)
